With this acquisition, REEL, a leader in handling and lifting systems, will add to its offering green anode plant, anode rodshop and casting equipment along with related services, thus becoming a leading technology provider in the global aluminium industry.
The value of the transaction is not disclosed.
The acquired business serves aluminium smelters globally, and has a leading position in the production of anodes required in the aluminium smelting process.
Its leading Green Anode Plant and Anode Rodshop technologies are featured in most of the world’s recent aluminium smelter expansions.
The business is primarily based in Germany, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates, with presence in China, India and Australia, and will complement REEL’s international presence.
“I am very pleased to welcome Metso Outotec’s aluminium business experts to the REEL family. We aim for strong growth by improving the way we serve our customers, and this transaction significantly strengthens our offering and presence among the global aluminium producers” says Philippe Frantz, Chairman of REEL International.
This latest transaction continues REEL International expansion in the aluminium industry.
“REEL International is an excellent new home for our aluminium technologies and experts. I am confident that the addition of Metso Outotec’s aluminium expertise to REEL’s leading offering will benefit aluminium producers globally in the form of new innovations, solutions and services” says Jari Ålgars, President, Metal Business Area, Metso Outotec Oyj.
With the acquisition of Metso Outotec’s aluminium business and Alesa from Rio Tinto in 2015, REEL is a partner for the whole primary aluminium industry with presence from port operations to casting.
“We will now focus on integrating the teams and forming a new strategy to leverage the best of both parties for the benefit of our customers. I see great potential for us to play a role in the improvement of environmental footprint and reduction of emissions of the global aluminium industry.” says Cedric Schmuck, Division Director, Aluminium, REEL International.
REEL has been operating in the Aluminium business sector for the past twenty years with a strong track record, having served every major aluminium producer in the world.
