Hydro has made a formal investment decision to develop a full scale pilot plant in Karmøy to demonstrate the world’s most energy and climate efficient aluminium production. Pending a final build decision, the pilot plant is scheduled to start production in the second half of 2017.
Hydro has awarded NKM Noell Special Cranes GmbH the contract for the PTM (pot tending machine) package.
The concluded contract comprises engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and assistance to start-up for three PTMs and one transfer gantry system.
NKM Noell Special Cranes is implementing its advanced design in single-man operated PTMs.
Such PTMs have been in industrial operation for more than six years in the Qatalum smelter in Qatar, where Hydro is a joint venture partner with Qatar Petroleum.
